Why has the world gone mad for a WOB? (That’s a Wavy Bob, FYI)

The world has gone mad for a WOB. That’s a wavy bob, FYI. Every celebrity worth her salt spray has lopped off the ends and ditched the dryer in an attempt to recreate the totally undone waves of WOB-elite like Alexa Chung and Jessica Alba.

So popular is Alexa’s messy do, that her stylist George Northwood has just opened a ‘bob bar’ at his London salon.
Speaking to The Edited George says, ““Over the past year we have seen a huge resurgence in women embracing shorter cuts. The most popular cut that women are coming in for is the bob but what I’ve noticed is that a bob means many things to many women!
“It’s such a classic style and retains relevance every era with subtle cutting techniques and new styling textures. What our salon wanted to do is to create not just a menu of looks but a menu of bob inspirations to act as a guide for women to discuss the type of looks, lengths and textures and cultural influences that they want for their own bespoke bob. I also wanted to create wigs of the bobs, so that in salon anyone wanting to go for a chop can see what the length might be like on them. We also have a Pinspiration board in the salon to aid the discussion and accompany the influence of the bobs, so that clients have current reference points.
“The main aim is to provide women with the confidence to take the chop â€" basically I want to take the fear factor out of scissors and haircuts because I believe that we are all just a bob away from brilliance!”

I am also a convert to the WOB after many, MANY years of straightening (read: attacking) my thick, coarse and wavy (frizzy) hair. It has made my life SO much easier being able to wash, add product, air dry and go.
And that is the beauty of the WOB â€" you just don’t need to fight against what your hair does naturally, you can embrace it and look current at the same time.
But with so many products on the market, I have tried many (MANY) to get the right look.
So here are my desert island perfect wavy bob products. They’re the ones I have had the most success with (and look less like that episode of Friends when Monica shouts ‘IT’S THE HUMIDITY’ every five minutes.) Yes, I did just culturally reference Friends. I’m so hip.

Hydrate + Defrizz Kukui oil shampoo and conditioner by OGX, £6.99 each from Boots and Waitrose (Waitrose sometimes do as an offer, which is when you need to stockpile!)
This just works on my hair and gives it a nice shine. It’s great for thick hair that’s prone to frizz as it contains Kukui nut oil which is used to repel humidity.

Curl Conscious Calming Creme by Bumble Bumble, £23.50, Feel Unique and Boots
A recent discovery, but WHOOPEE, it’s just what I needed.  If you have very curly hair but just want to create a smoother wave, this is the one you need. Neither too creamy and gloopy, nor too thick, this leaves hair crunch-free but loosens the curl slightly. You also only need a ten pence piece size so this lasts AGES.

Wella SP Luxe Oil, £28.30, Feel Unique
I mix a couple of drops of this divine smelling oil with a bit of finishing product (below) to ensure there is no frizz. If your hair is fine, use this sparingly by rubbing on your hands first and then through the ends. You could also use a tiny drop to control flyaways when it’s dry.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAEasy Rider Anti Frizz Creme, Kevin Murphy, £17.99, available on Amazon
This is a great product for anyone who wants a bit of movement â€" or to promote the wave in your hair. It’s a light wax so you don’t need loads â€" I just add a bit into the palm of my hands and rub together before going over the mid to ends and lightly scrunching. It gives a bit of texture which I like, but doesn’t overload the hair. Plus it smells lovely. This would also be a great product to promote a wave in straighter hair, but just use a little and scrunch in with your hands.
